World Tribal Day or International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is observed on 9 August every year.

The day recognizes the first meeting of the United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Populations in Geneva in 1982.

It has been celebrated every year since 1994, in accordance with the declaration by the United Nations.

Indigenous societies are found in every inhabited climate zone and continent of the world except Antarctica.

There are approximately five thousand Indigenous nations throughout the world.
