ISRO was established on August 15, 1969.
It was established by Vikram Sarabhai, set up under Jawaharlal Nehru in 1962 recognising the need for space research.
The Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR), which was founded in 1962.
INCOSPAR grew and became ISRO in 1969, within the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).
